Sarwen watched the imperial forces moving against him and cursed bitterly.  His left flank was caving and he quickly voxed an order that the reaction force he had for break ins be sent in on the left.  Of course he knew they would be quickly chopped apart by the Imperial tanks in the center of the advance.  He seethed at the thought of it and the anger spurred his next decision.  The Imperial tanks had to be distracted they had to be destroyed.  They needed to be torn apart in fury and Sarwen knew just the thing.  harnessing the life energy of the dead militia around him he uttered numerous curses and supplications.  Reality shifted and in the center of the battlefield a small band of blood letters stepped into the world howling for blood and slaughter.

A helbrute lifted it's plasma cannon and aimed at the punisher tank that was now showing it's weaker side armor since it had opened fire on Sarwen and his militia.  With a powerful hiss a blast of plasma sliced into the side of the tank shaking the vehicle and causing small flames and smoke to gutter along it's hull.

Another helbrute leveled it's lascannon at the chimera that had reached the walls and fired.  The shot ripped the turret of the chimera apart but the machine was still running when the helbrute bellowing in rage stepped over the barrier to pound it with it's powerfist.  The clawed powerfist ripped open the fuel cells and the chimera's engine died as the vehicle caught fire.  A priest led the surviving squad out careful to duck around to the left of the burning vehicle in order to shield his men from the rampaging helbrute.

Meanwhile the two heldrakes continued to hunt the Imperial artillery.  The one spewing burning napalm upon the already damaged wyvern.  Unlike it's first targets the Wyvern wasn't sealed and was instead open topped.  The napalm turned the crew into human torches and the vehicle into a pyre.  The other heldrake opened up on the basilisk blowing off a track.  However most of the round were absorbed by the earthshaker cannon's gun shield.

On the Stygian right flank the helbrute there lowered it's autocannon and charged while firing at the squad on it's walls.  Shells flew wildly over the heads of the veteran guardsmen but one found it's mark turning the man into a shrieking pink mist.  and then the helbrute was on them it's bladed tentacles swirling cutting down another two guardsmen before the helbrute itself reeled from an exploding krak grenade.  Normal guardsmen would have fled but these were veterans.  They knew that to attempt flight was to die and so they stood their ground drawing krak grenades determined to see the fight through to the finish.

The Kharkovian 8th continued to press forwards coming on slowly in the center while driving hard on the left and right flank in order to pierce the line and then encircle the defenders.  Once that was done they could trap the Stygians on their own defenses and wipe them out.  A fitting tribute for the emperor.  The Vanquisher tank tracked it's barrel on the forgefiend that had already inflicted such damage on the advance.  it fired and the shell pierced the daemon engine through the chest to have the shell erupt inside.  The fiery ectoplasm within the fell warmachine erupted tearing the stygian warmachine apart from the inside and erupting in a titanic detonation that left yet another smoking crater.  The Stygian left flank was fast crumbling.

Meanwhile the punisher tank shifted slightly and attempted to widen the gap in the stygian lines.  It's heavy bolters and gatling cannon rattled round after round into Sarwen and his militia sending half a dozen men sprawling dead on the ground but the thick defensive walls shielded them from the worst of the fire.

Artillery fire now poured down on the stygian lines as a few chimeras raced forwards their engines at full throttle.  One Chimera on the Imperial left flank raced up to the Stygian left flank confident in the artillery suppressing the defenders fire.  It pressed forward too boldly for suddenly a round went short slamming into the chimera and setting it ablaze.
The squad inside rushed out and leveled their plasma guns at the helbrute before them firing six shots into the hulking monstrosity.  Molten plasma bounced off the adamantium hide of the fell walker though it did begin to smoke.

Through the roar of the Imperial artillery barrage a new sound emerged.  The screaming death shriek of heldrakes as they zoomed onto the battlefield.  The first of the daemon engines targeted the wyverns shelling the stygian lines.  A rain of shells erupted from it's maw slamming into one of the wyverns silencing it's guns and leaving it belching thick black smoke.

The second heldrake opened it's hellish maw and spewed flaming napalm upon a line of advancing vehicles.  The flames washed over them but these kharkovians were veterans and the vehicles were sealed tight.  only a single chimera had napalm fall into it's engine wrecking it and leaving it billowing black smoke.

The flamers of Tzeentch leaped forward towards the skitarri that had showered them with their radioactive fire.  The multitude of maws on their arms and head opened and a wave of flames raced out and engulfed the skitarri leaving them a pile of blackened corpses.
A helbrute leveled it's reaper autocannon at one of the approaching chimeras and opened fire.  heavy shells slammed into the frontal armor of the chimera blowing off chunks of plate and starting a small fire and yet still it raced onwards.

The forgefiend leveled it's guns at another chimera.  Tha air was filled with the ripping sound of hundreds of rounds being sent  into the chimera which shuddered and shook under the impact before the multilaser was sheared off and smoke billowed from the chimera.

Another Helbrute leveled it's lascannon at the chimera advancing on the stygian left flank.  A blast of energy lashed out slamming into the side of the chimera causing it to burst into flames while the Kharkovian guardsmen rushed out of the burning transport.

With the troops fleeing out of the burning chimera another helbrute and the stygian militia leveled their weapons and let fly at them.  The heavy fire cut down half the squad while the rest of the fire slammed into the nearby tank trap.

Through the withering fire of the stygian forces the Kharkovian 8th Guards lead regimental combat team continued to advance.  Tanks moved up to better firing positions as chimera's raced ahead in an effort to pierce the Stygian lines.  On either flank Skittari attached to the Kharkovian 8th stalked forward weapons at the ready.

The tech priest scrambled behind Lt. Shirpov's vanquisher tank chanting psalms to the omnisiah.  His servitors trailed behind him and at once the tech priest began to repair the damage done.
The punisher tank came to a quick halt and brought it's guns to bear.  The gatling punisher cannon swirled and round after round poured out into the Stygian militia manning their defensive walls.  A few of the militia men fell but most sheltered behind the concrete walls and survived the torrent of fire.

The Skittari advancing along the imperial left flank leveled their rad carbines towards the daemonic flamers of Tzeentch and began pouring fire into them.  One of the foul deamons suddenly winked out of reality while another staggered then howled with fury.

Now the artillery joined the fray seeking to soften the stygian defenses.  The barrages they would unleash would with luck suppress the defenders fire allowing the Kharkovian 8th to close with and destroy the heretics.  The wyverns fired a furious volley.  Shell after shell hammered into a mob of stygian militia like a jackhammer of the gods.  Flames and smoke filled the air and as the last shells slammed home only smoking craters and body parts remained on that hammered ground.

A Basilisk raised it's mighty cannon skyward and fired, adding it's massive shell to the heavy barrage slamming into the stygian line.  Stygian militia hit the deck as the barrage hammered home.  Even still a few more of their number were swept away in a whirlwind of fire and steel.  And still the Imperials advanced.
