AL LRRP team unleashing daemons

Grenada Reconquest- Iberian Campaign- Iberia-  An Alpha Legion long range recon patrol team including a sorcerer later identified as the arch heretic Kallis assault a Imperial Supply depot while Kallis opens a small warp rift and unleashes a force of daemons to run rampant behind imperial lines.  These terror tactics the Alpha Legion used on Iberia also had the advantage of tying up an inordinate number of forces from front line duty to protect the ground already taken.  A result of which was the slowing of the advance.

Stout resistance

Grenada Reconquest- Iberian Campaign- Iberia, outpost 279-  With a quick reorganization a defense of the inner ring of outpost 279 was established by the Stygian forces who repulsed the imperial advance with heavy casualties.  The swift victory that had appeared to be within Imperial reach had been thwarted and a brutal stalemate began to set in.

Doom lure

Grenada Reconquest- Iberian Campaign- Iberia, outpost 279-  The Imperials continued their successful if costly assault.  Stygian forces quickly resorted to dirty stratagems in an effort to drive up the blood price the Imperium would pay.  The often used a tactic they called a doom lure, where a squad would fight hard for a position then retreat under the cover of a single member of the squad.
When Imperial forces then assaulted the position in overwhelming force they would see a swift victory often not noticing the remote controlled booby trap until it was far far too late.
With the advance Imperial force then wiped out the retreating squad would then reoccupy the position leaving nearby Imperial units very reluctant to assault the position lest they carry out the same trick.  The hesitation thus imposed upon Imperial forces slowed the advance and allowed a reorganization of the Stygian Defense.

2nd assault on outpost 279

Grenada Reconquest- Iberian campaign- Iberia, outpost 279-  A second assault was launched aided by marines of the Apocalypse Angels chapter.  Fierce fire lashed out at the attacking Imperials but the demolisher cannons on the Apocalypse Angel vindicators began opening holes in the defensive perimeter for the Anglican guard infantry to exploit.  All the while the outpost was subject to continued air raids in an effort to impede other stygian units in the outpost from reinforcing the part of the perimeter under assault.

sally out of outpost 279

Grenada Reconquest- Iberian Campaign- Iberia, outpost 279- Stygian forces send a group of insurgent militia out of the outpost via a secreted tunnel system.  The stygian militia emerge by the Anglican artillery and using the explosives they were provided with, proceed to wreck the Imperial guns and begin sowing death and confusion behind the Imperial siege lines.  This sudden sally out of the outpost began a small crisis in Imperial command as some Imperial commander advocated falling back and resecuring the area at the expense of the siege.  Calmer heads and the threatening voices of the commissariat instead saw orders issued for reinforcements to deal with insurgent raids.

1rst assault on outpost 279

Grenada Reconquest- Iberian Campaign- Iberia, outpost 279-  Soldiers of the 5th Anglican Imperial Guard regiment launch an assault on Outpost 279.  Despite a large predawn bombardment the Stygian Defenses are still firmly held.  The assaulting Imperial forces are cut down by Stygian artillery and small arms fire.  Seeing the ease with which the first wave of the attack was cut down Imperial commanders halt the attack and prepare to go back to siege methods to weaken the Stygians further before trying again.

shelling outpost 279

Grenada Reconquest- Iberian campaign- Iberia, outpost 279- As part of the Imperial siege of outpost 279 regular artillery bombardments of the fortified outpost began to occur.  Imperial forces did this to allow their units to dig trenches closer to the outpost under the cover of the bombardment as well as to soften up potential strongpoints and degrade Stygian forces with attrition prior to launching a breaching assault.
