As Alpha Legion marines devastated the supply depot and the Imperial forces in the south suffered under the shock of the nuke detonation to the east, Stygian Guard units emerged from tunnels as part of the counter offensive Harrowing the Alpha Legion had planned.  Striking quickly in the confusion they wiped out the southern Imperial artillery park before moving on to establish blocking positions to prevent any reinforcements from coming up from the south.  This left the southern front of the city mostly encircled even as the eastern front had been annihilated in a nuclear holocaust and the northern front leaderless.
