Crusade Armageddon
Well I have just received the crusade Armageddon book. I have not read through the full narrative yet, however I have gone through the crusade rules. In the interest of full disclosure I have bought every Crusade supplement in the past and firmly believe each adds and fulfills a different niche to enhance narrative play. Here is my initial take on this one.
This supplement is for playing in Warp soaked hellscapes or planets turning into a daemon world
The big focus here is on hellscapes and random warp phenomenon on the battlefield. It has extensive rules to allow you to do just that. The additional rules are overly complicated in my opinion. However crusade is a toolbox for narrative gaming. And it is a useful tool for it's purpose. In general I will take the phenomenon table and simplify it for inclusion in my narrative games. The hellscapes provided are great as is in my opinion while the random phenomenon table activation is a bit much. Personally I would just roll 2 random ones up for the whole game rather than different ones at different turns.
Included also is use of mindless daemon npc forces opposing or preying upon both sides. It is a nice fluffy add but not for everyone. It does contribute to the feel of playing on a warp fused hellscape. It is a good starting point tool for inclusion of a third party force in your narrative games.
Missions are very good if very complex. They are great narrative mißsions for opening and closing warp rifts.
Agendas- Agendas are good with a focus on opening and closing warp portals and rifts. However there is a new agenda system here with random turn agendas similar to secondary objectives in match play 40k. I think this system has a lot to offer and might make it easier to get matched play players into narrative gaming.
Other than that it is the same as any other crusade book. The battle scar table is identical as are most of the battle honors. The exception being a group of battle honors specifically for psychers units which is a great addition.
Overall the book is ok, great for campaigns dealing with the creation or closing of warp rifts. If this is not something that interests you I suggest sticking to a different crusade supplement. I will use some of it but not all of it. Overall I rate it a 6 out of 10.
