During the stygian wars Alpha legion forces would take captive psychic mutants and imbed warpstone in their bodies. They would then connect the minds of these wretches to emitters. Imperial minds would then be preyed upon by warp visions as they slept. The feelings of fear and dread the emitters would evoke in imperial forces would leave them weakened and vulnerable to attack. Alpha legion forces emplaced such emitters in key sectors before a major stygian assault.
