Fall of Captain Dravin
Captain Dravin rallied remnants of the Gorash III pdf and decided to lead a breakout of Hive Sturgis. Captain Dravin would spearhead the breakout effort and once through the khornate lines hold open a corridor for a full imperial evacuation. Librarian Gabriel was struck with a wave of unease at the plan but Captain Dravin was unmoved. To stay in the hive was death and defeat. And so under a furious bombardment the Imperial spearhead pushed forward into the front lines of the khornate horde.
No sooner than the mechanized columns poured through the front line towards the second line, glowing helm lenses appeared in the ruins in their midst. Kurgan the cruel had pulled his howling hordes back during the bombardment and concealed them in the ruins between the defensive lines. They now burst out amongst the Imperial spearhead blasting apart armor as berserkers hacked apart drive tracks from apc's with chain axes. The Imperial forces had been caught surprised by the ambush.
With the ambush sprung imperial forces quickly dismounted and rushed forward guns blazing to engage the horde. Captain Dravin led a battered veteran squad of Apocalypse Angels at Kurgan the cruel. As he did so he failed to see the warp flash of the exalted teleporting behind his ambushed column completing the World Eaters encirclement. Shots poured into the demon prince only to be dissapaited by black acrid warp shadows. The daemon warlord lashed out hacking apart most of the squad in seconds and Captain Dravin found himself fighting for his life. Librarian Gabriel fought against a mad horde of bloody berserkers but found himself pushed back from the column. He was thus cut off and helpless to stop the unfolding disaster as world eaters and Apocalypse Angels hacked at one another in frenzied combat fueled by hate and rage. The assault marines died in on the chaos knight dropping explosives on it before charging in and attempting to plant further charges.
The chaos knight evicerated the assault marines as the exalted attacked the rest of the armored column. More berserkers appeared at the front hacking apart Apocalypse Angels as they slammed into them. Captain Dravin seeing the disaster unfolding voxed a general order for imperial forces to escape however they could then steeled himself to buy the time needed with his life. A lone chimera darted through a gap attempting to flee through the world eaters lines.
Captain Dravin threw all his might at Kurgan the cruel. Blade met blade with the flash of lightning and warp flare. Dravin parried a blow and turned the parry into a lunge that saw his blade run through the daemon prince's gut. Kurgan stepped back the blade transfixed in him. Dravin felt a sudden surge of hope, then the daemon warlord laughed. In the blink of an eye the daemon was on him lifting him up by the throat before bringing the giant warp cleaver down bisecting the Apocalypse Angels Captain. Again and again the cleaver swung down in time with the daemons laughter and howls of triumph. Captain Dravin was hacked to pieces.
The fleeing chimera was quickly surrounded and ripped apart, it's pdf troops butchered. A heldrake strafed the burning remnants of the breakout force as the chaos knight strode forth butchering everything in it's path.
After a bit only a trapped squad of pdf troops remained surrounded in the midst of the column. The khornate horde descended upon them and added their skulls to the trophy mound. There would be no breakout. Hive Sturgis would be the tomb of the Apocalypse Angels.
