The razing of Hive Sturgis habsprawl- Fire and Vengeance Crusade

 

Imperium Nihlis-Gorash III- habsprawl Hive Sturgis- Heavy orbital bombardments rained down on the habsprawl at the edge of the hive.  Just outside the Hives void shield the hive militias and PDF force was slaughtered and forced back into the Hive with the blood crusade right on their heels.

The Apocalypse Angels attempted to make a stand as refugees and surviving imperial forces pulled back into the hive.  A defensive line was established only to be disrupted by the voracious bombardment from the blood crusades space hulk.  The dust and debris thrown up by the bombardment screened the khornate hordes advance.  The Apocalypse Angels fire often missed as electromagnetic interference from the bombardment threw off targeted and auspex tracks.  In moments a bitter battle raged in the habsprawl as the khornate horde closed the range.  Close quarter firefights devolved into frenzied close combat as the Apocalypse Angels attempted to hold ground.  Lightning from orbit struck the ground revealing eightbound possessed who had teleported in from the orbiting hulk.

Explosions lit up the battlefield as both sides used grenades amidst the maelstrom of battle.  Apocalypse Angel vanguard veterans counterattacked on winged jump packs pushing the horde back before being swept away in a rising tide of berserkers.  The Apocalypse Angels managed to destroy a number of daemon engines that burned fiercely in the ruins.  However rampaging eightbound possessed slammed into the Apocalypse Angels war machines ripping them apart and bathing in the resulting explosion before bellowing fresh cries for death and destruction.  In desperation Captain Dravin ordered the hives pdf artillery to bombard his own position.  As the explosives thundered down around them the Apocalypse Angels broke contact and withdrew.  Suddenly the hive came under bombardment from the hulk in orbit with void shields slowly buckling under.  The outer habsprawl was lost.  If the hive and it's defenders were to have any chance the guns on the hulk would need to be silenced.  It would be a desperate mission for the Apocalypse Angels.
