Vox com relay boosters were used by both sides through the Stygian Wars.  Enabling the boosting of long range signals they often made for tempting targets and objectives of both sides as they offered a way into the opposing sides comm and information networks if captured.  Many bloody skirmishes were fought to gain control of or retain control of these devices.
