The Stygian Empire and their Alpha Legion allies often deployed rogue psychers on the battlefield.  Unstable as these psychers were they often self destructed but those that did not were deemed to be blessed by the Pantheon and strong enough to undergo further training to hone their psychic potential.  These rogue psychers often had a devastating effect on Imperial morale when they cast forth lightning from there eyes that slew many Imperial guardsman.
