The arid planet of Kushan IV was an imperial mining world. Though led by an imperial governor elements of the Adeptus Mechanicus wielded significant influence. The planet had a lone orbital defense station and a small orbital repair yard. These factors saw the planet being used as a logistical hub for supplying operations against the Stygian Empire. Most of the forces marshaling on Kushan IV were dispatched to deal with the fall of fleet Quartus. The stockpiled supplies and the small orbital repair yard made the world a priority Alpha Legion target in their Crimson Dragon offensive. The Alpha Legion planned to turn the world into a forward operating base and logistics center. The conquest of Kushan IV was planed for in two distinct operations.
