Col Ashcroft looked at the front line with a sense of horror. The death guard had just slaughtered over fifty guardsmen and were pushing his forces back. He frantically ordered all fire be directed at the advancing death guard forces. A roar overhead told of an airstrike against the chaos forces.
Mortar rounds and small arms fire continued to engulf the advancing plague marines dropping after of their number even as the rest continued forward.
Heavy artillery barrages also rained down and destroyed another death guard rhino in a sprawling explosion.
On the imperial left flank guard forces continued to hold against the plague marines. The butchery of the falling plague knives saw more men fall screaming. However one guardsman rammed his bayonet into a plague marines windpipe and then fired his lasgun full auto killing the chaos abomination.
On the imperial right flank the last surviving guardsmen launched a wild screaming charge into the death guard. Imperial hymnal were screamed by the fear crazed fanatical soldiers. Their cries cut off in a flurry of grenade detonations and bolter fire. The charge paused and then the guardsmen were hit by the counter charge. The sounds of meat being chopped apart filled the air and the imperial right flank disappeared in a welter of blades and blood.
