The Dark Jihad continued to come about until it was presenting a broadside to the oncoming imperial task force. On the command throne Lord Magwar bellowed out orders to the vox operator fused in nightmarish sorcery to his post. "Order the Evicerator, and Hydra Fang to close with the carrier. Order the escorts to engage the sword squadron then make for the carrier. I want the lance batteries to engage those escorts. Fire!"
Beams of lance fire shot out from the void followed by macro shells and more lance beams from the idolator and infidel raiders. Shields flared then failed and three of the swords exploded under the bombardment. Briefly burning wreckage filled the void before drifting off as cold lifeless debris.
Meanwhile Warspite was pouring out Las and flak fire into the incoming torpedoes. A sudden flash signaled the destruction of the threat to the imperial war ship.
A wave of chaos doomwing bombers slid through the debris field of the destroyed swords. Using chunks of drifting wreckage to screen them they emerged suddenly upon the last sword frigate. Belatedly the imperial ship began to open up with flak fire but it was too late. Nearly a hundred plasma warheads were unleashed on the frigate. In a series of flashes and detonations the frigate was destroyed.
Even as that happened a flight of imperial bombers with fighter escorts engaged an infidel raider. The Alpha legion ship began firing flak and lascannons at the incoming craft. The imperial fighters burst ahead firing lascannons into the ship's flak batteries destroying and silencing them. Plasma warheads from the bombers then ripped the ship apart in a fiery explosion.
