Captain Scipius was often the lead commander in charge of vanguard operations. A skilled strategist he used vanguard forces as a force multiplier amongst imperial forces. When operating deep in enemy territory without imperial support the Scipius used vanguard marines as advanced recon and sabotage specialists rather than hit and run guerrilla fighters. Scipius was an excellent administrator who was willing and able to delegate authority. As a result vanguard forces could be spread further, increasing their effectiveness without serious degradation of command and control.
