Grimm Omens campaign-A threat perceived
Inquisitor Iris stood amongst a gathered group of Inquisitors. Most were from her conclave in the Stygian sector. One was not, Inquisitor Vaughn was based in the Vasar Nebula and from what she could determine was a major player in the conclave there. She became aware that the others had stopped talking about her findings and now all eyes were upon her.
"The Tarrot and other divinations are clear and support our own intelligence reports. The Alpha Legion and Stygian Empire seek an alliance with the despoiler. The Despoiler has dispatched the Grimm and his warband to this end. The Grimm has instructions to establish a base in the periphery of the great rift alongside the Vasar Nebula in furtherance to this end. The omens and portents are clear. The Grimm must be prevented from doing so," she concluded.
"Do we have specific locations that can be targeted?" asked Vaughn. "The Watch Knights will need such information before they can launch a strike into the maelstrom that is the rift's periphery."
"No, we have only the tarrot and the divine guidance of the Emperor to guide us in that." she replied.
"It is doubtful the Adeptus Astartes or even the Astra Millitarum would be willing to contribute to a blind expedition into the rift with the information we have," Inquisitor Galt said gravely.
"With the current conditions here in Sanctus I doubt it." Vaughn said.
"And so you will do nothing!" Iris hissed.
"I will pass your warnings on to the Watch Knights chapter and Imperial forces and garrisons in the nebula. I will even pass it on to the silent sisterhood vigil they are standing up in the nebula." Vaughn said holding up his hand in a placating gesture, "I know it isn't much but without better targeting data the Watch Knights will not commit and any guard force sent into that hell are likely forfeit from spiritual corruption and degradation that rages at the rift's periphery."
Iras felt her anger stir, even as she knew he spoke the truth. She was a puritan through and through and the idea of doing nothing was beyond her ability to stomach. Especially as it was rumored this Vaughn was at heart a radical. luckily she had a solution in mind.
"I have some contacts amongst the order of our martyred Lady. Their faith can shield them from the worst of the rift. I will personally lead a small strike force into the periphery of the rift to hunt down and eliminate this Grimm and his warband thus preventing untold horror and woe. This is the Emperor's holy will and my sacred duty. I will see it done," she concluded.
One by the one the gathered Inquisitors nodded their assent. Iras knew the souls of many of the sisters who accompanied her would likely be forfeit. Indeed most would undertake this assaignment as a penance for their own failings real or imagined. Many who accompanied her would be repentia or the condemned seeking redemption as arco flagellants in death. So be it. It was the will of the Emperor and that will was all that mattered. Thus the cost would thus be worth it.
