Grimm Omens campaign- Events set in motion

Abbadon the Despoiler stood amongst his Champions.  The campaign at the Nachmund Guantlet was turning into a war of attrition.  It was a war he felt he could win but it would take time.  Fortunately there was an option he could use that would take care of a number of rising problems and might present him with a multitude of strategic opportunities.

"Brothers, Lord magwar of the Alpha Legion in the Stygian sector has advanced the possibility of alliance.  The rise of Akurra Solomon has humbled the serpent I think." Abbadon said with a laugh.

Around him his gathered Warlords chuckled with grim amusement.  Few liked let along trusted the Alpha Legion commander despite his previous success and even aid to the black Legion.

"I am inclined to send a represenative to make the alliance.  Lord magwar will need our aid in his Stygian Wars." Abbadon said.

"What do we get out of it?" bellowed Krugash a former World Eater and now a champion of the Black Legion.

"A narrow and treacherous route through the rift to the Vasar nebula.  Magwar says it can be done though it will be unstable and treacherous.  Lord Magwar seeks a supply line.  If we can secure passage he will have it and we will have an infiltration route into Imperium Sanctus."

"That is good my Lord, but it is not enough.  The route will be unstable.  We would need to contruct Noctolith crowns within it in order to set up a stable route.  The force sent through would have to establish a base and garrison it in the periphery of the rift in order to accomplish this.  Not a swift task.  Then either conquer his way through the Vasar nebula or build a network of infiltration routes through into the Stygian sector.  If we can do this why go to the Stygian sector?  Why not go and take the nechmung guantlet from the Sanctus side falling upon the Imperial rear in a strategic surprise attack?" Asked Socratis a sorceror from the thousand sons who had taken the black.

"It is a long way from the Stygian sector to the Guantlet.  The path is not yet laid and is treacherous.  I will not risk a large portion of the Legion on this long  gambit.  Here is what we do.  We will accept this offer tenatively.  We will dispatch a sole warband to do as Socratis says and lay down a stable path for possible future follow on.  If a relatively stable line can be created to the Stygian empire they can then be put to better use and provide a secure staging area to launch a strategic surprise assault on the Guantlet.  They can aid our forces in a main thrust or on other thrusts drawing away the Imperiums defenses in the sector.  If the Stygian sector can not be used for a strategic staging ground we will use it and strenghtne it as a secondary operational from drawing off Imperial reinforcements from the guantlet to the Stygian sector and the Vasar nebula if our warband establishes a base amongst the edges of the rift and begins diversionary raids.  Either way it suit's our stategic goals." Abbadon said.

"Who do we send on this task?" demanded Krugash belligerantly.

"I am sending the Grimm and his warband.  They are capable but new to our cause their loyalty is questionable and they are thus expendable should this task prove to be too much.  But I think the Grimm will succeed.  He is eager to prove himself and his ambition is great.  Socratis You and your companions and tribe of mutants will join him there.  You clearly understand the nature of the task and so you will aid him.  and watch him of course.  See to it Lord Magwar does not fill his mind with unwanted ideas and see that his ambition does not exceed his grasp.  Lastly see to it any alliance he brokers favors us and keep alert for Alpha Legion treachery.  This is my will as your War Master see it done." Abbadon commanded.
