With the opening of the great rift the belisarian faction of the adeptus mechanicus began exploring repurposing tested technologies to aid the imperium. In the stygian sector this splinter faction began attempting to use Geller field generators as a shield for hive cities and military installations. The shielded sites would be relatively immune from demonic incursions depriving the stygian empire of its greatest weapon against the imperium.
