Watch Knights space marine chapter

 

The Watch Knights chapter are a newly founded Primaris chapter.  The chapter was created with the imperial fists geneseed line.  The entire chapter participated in the initial Indomitus crusade as grey shields, split up and partnered with other grey shields with different geneseed lines and working with and alongside many different Imperial military factions and forces.  These experiences in the Indomitus crusade were to have a profound impact on the chapter and how it would operate.

The avenging son ordered the creation of the Watch Knight chapter to be formed from grey shield Marines of Dorn's line.  He tasked them as wardens over the Vasar nebula, located in Imperium Sanctus along the great rift.  The chapter was to act as a bulwark to the rift and prevent chaos incursions from moving through the nebula and sector and raiding deep into Imperium Sanctus.

   As would be expected of a sons of Dorn chapter, the Watch Knights excelled at fortifications and defensive works.  In just a few years the Watch Knights had secured many worlds within the Vasar nebula and had fortified them heavily to resist xenos and chaos incursions.   From their fortified zone the Watch Knights patrolled the sector and along the great rift.   Often company sized forces were sent out on "rangings".  These expeditions would seek out enemies of the Imperium to be destroyed.  Other times they were sent out to answer a particular call to arms or urgent plea from the greater Imperium.  Occasionally these Rangings would attempt to discover new routes through the great rift into Imperium Nihlis.

     One factor that marked the Watch Knights as different from other chapters was it's frequent coordination with other Imperial forces through the sector.  They would cooperate with Astra militarum units performing joint offensives with them.  They would have squads advise and act as cadre for planetary defense forces greatly increasing their caliber and capabilities.  They worked closely with adeptus mechanicus forces and swore vows of aid and protection to the forge worlds.  They aided sisters of battle cathedrums both in war and in the strengthening and fortfying their defenses.  They also eagerly answered Inquisition requests.  Finally they aided the Astra telepathica on two major projects in the sector.  Helping to fortify a astral hub for communications.  And finally in helping establish a vigil for the sisters of silence force known as the Spectres.

    This unusual degree of coordination and cooperation stems from the chapters experience in the Indomitus crusade.  The Watch Knights view these as natural obligations due to their wardenship.  While a few whispers have been heard questioning the influence and authority of the chapter in the sector, these remain at the time a minority view lacking in basis and influence.  The Watch Knights remain staunch defenders of the Imperium.
