Preventing the Apocalypse ritual

 

Imperium Nihlis- Gorash III- Hive Sturgis-  The hive had been plunged into darkness with the only light coming from uncontrolled fires and muzzle flashes.  Librarian Gabriel had divined the khornate hordes next objective.   Kurgan the cruel was seeking to ritually defile the three main shrines of Hive Sturgis during the solar eclipse that day.  The ritual would see a tendril of the great rift to lance out towards the Gorash system.  The Apocalypse Angels would prevent the ritual.

The Apocalypse Angels fired into the dark at the khornate horde.  The unnatural darkness created by the allied traitor knight cloaked and protected the horde from the majority of the incoming fire before they lashed out with devestating fire destroying a number of Apocalypse Angels vehicles before they charged in.  Kurgan the cruel butchering a number of Hive Sturgis clergymen in the great basilica.

All across the front the Apocalypse Angels counterattack slammed into the khornate horde.  On the left flank near the triumphal arch. The Apocalypse Angels fired furious salvos before charging in.  Captain Dravin hacked his way through a berserker band even as ancient Elijah slammed into another band smashing them apart.  Chaplain Janus led the assault squad into the exalted throwing them back.  In the center the vanguard veterans and ancient Ezekiel charged into the basilica destroying the maulerfiend and wounding Kurgan the cruel as he cut down the last of the clergy.  On the right flank the Apocalypse Angels mowed down most of the berserkers at the chapel of the Emperor's Vigilance before charging in and cutting the stunned survivors down.

The fighting continued as the chaos knight strode forth bleeding warp energy for the ritual even as it smashed its way through the Imperial lines.  But it was to no avail as Kurgan the cruel had been pushed out of the basilica and the chapel and arch remained out of the control of the horde.  The eclipse happened and the ritual failed.  Kurgan cursed the Imperium and then halted as a tremor in the warp hit him.  Kurgan felt the ice blood of fear.  The Apocalypse Angels had halted the ritual and had gained a victory but in doing so had attracted the attention and ire of the truly horrific.  It was on it's way, it was coming here, and when it arrived all would drown in blood and fire.
